Nikon AW100 part II.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was the last picture I got before my second Nikon AW100 failed. Disappointed in the performance, when this camera works it is great. I have been reading and have discovered that Nikon makes silicon o-ring seal grease. Why do they not include some with this camera? Why do they not tell people to lubricate the seal? Apparently this needs to be done to keep the seal from shrinking, cracking and just not doing its job.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7j5B9apZwa0/U7iAx2wsoII/AAAAAAAAKYY/FlUFthqJ9_c/s1600/DSCN0884.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7j5B9apZwa0/U7iAx2wsoII/AAAAAAAAKYY/FlUFthqJ9_c/s1600/DSCN0884.JPG" height="320" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am not sure what I will do as most of the other cameras in this segment have the same door and seal arrangement. I only need an underwater camera several weeks out of the year so this makes a dedicated underwater camera a poor choice. I have three batteries, accessories, cables and a case for this camera. Do I buy an AW120?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not sure but I will not need an underwater camera for another year so I have time to research a new/better choice.</div>

Unbelievable colors, shadows, a crescent moon and a long slow fade. Incredible depth to my images, I am still processing the ones from my D800e but this one from my Sigma DP2s camera really shows off the Foveon sensor.<br />

Thanks to those that have voted on my image. I was thrilled to grab this shot and have many more to process after our recent trip. My Nikon D800e, Nikkor 24-70 and Singh-Ray warming LB polarizer really did the trick and this is my go to combo when shooting for travel.<br />
<br />
I will have more images to post up soon.<br />

<br />
We are enjoying another year in St. Thomas and the U.S. Virgin Islands. I am pleased to report that my new AW 100 is working perfectly and providing a lot of fantastic images as well as underwater video. I am learning that I do not know much about shooting video but I am having fun trying.<br />
<br />
So far the photography opportunities have been abundant. We spent the holiday today on a great day <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
sail with two snorkeling stops where I got some great images. This Filefish was a new one for me and I was glad he finally let me take his picture. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Whitespotted Filefish</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
The Nikon AW100 is a great tool with some nice options. It has been performing well although if you want to grab video, pictures and use all the options like GPS and video light, then you need extra batteries. I use three and they come in handy.<br />
<br />
I will post some new info as I process some new images.<br />
<br />
Until next time, keep shooting.<br />

As an amateur photographer, I have the luxury of enjoying my cameras and trying to gain some knowledge and improve my skills by doing even the simplest things.<br />
<br />
It is no secret how hot it has been across the nation this summer and I have not been out much taking pictures, certainly not as much as I would like. So when I saw my <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OL2ID2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005OL2ID2&linkCode=as2&tag=briansh-20%22%3ENikon%20D800E%2036.3%20MP%20CMOS%20FX-Format%20Digital%20SLR%20Camera%20(Body%20Only)%3C/a%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B005OL2ID2%22%20width=%221%22%20height=%221%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22%22%20style=%22border:none%20!important;%20margin:0px%20!important;%22%20/%3E" target="_blank">D800e</a> sitting on my desk for another weekend I decided to experiment in my own front yard.<br />
<br />
We have a ever changing assortment of butterflies that come to the half dozen Spirea bushes in our front yard and I enjoy trying to capture these butterflies as they move from flower to flower. Getting my <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OL2ID2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005OL2ID2&linkCode=as2&tag=briansh-20%22%3ENikon%20D800E%2036.3%20MP%20CMOS%20FX-Format%20Digital%20SLR%20Camera%20(Body%20Only)%3C/a%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B005OL2ID2%22%20width=%221%22%20height=%221%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22%22%20style=%22border:none%20!important;%20margin:0px%20!important;%22%20/%3E" target="_blank">D800e</a> and my <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ciframe%20src=%22http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=briansh-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B000VDCT3C%22%20style=%22width:120px;height:240px;%22%20scrolling=%22no%22%20marginwidth=%220%22%20marginheight=%220%22%20frameborder=%220%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E" target="_blank">Nikkor 24-70</a>, I headed out into the yard.<br />
<br />
Although a tripod would be better for tack sharp images, I wanted to see if I could catch them in action and went handheld. Imagine my surprise for twenty minutes work, I came away with this image<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://pcdn.500px.net/11554981/9e0cf113d3f8b025e4143e368f321d3a5b962724/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://pcdn.500px.net/11554981/9e0cf113d3f8b025e4143e368f321d3a5b962724/4.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://500px.com/photo/11554981" target="_blank">Yellow Swallowtail butterfly</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The image was shot at an angle over my head and was slightly underexposed. A few minor tweaks and a crop in <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ciframe%20src=%22http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=briansh-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B007Y6L2ZU%22%20style=%22width:120px;height:240px;%22%20scrolling=%22no%22%20marginwidth=%220%22%20marginheight=%220%22%20frameborder=%220%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E" target="_blank">Lightroom 4</a> and I was pleased with my short time in my yard. Beautiful bokeh from the <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ciframe%20src=%22http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=briansh-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B000VDCT3C%22%20style=%22width:120px;height:240px;%22%20scrolling=%22no%22%20marginwidth=%220%22%20marginheight=%220%22%20frameborder=%220%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E" target="_blank">Nikkor 24-70</a>, soft light because of the angle and the butterfly held still for just a brief second that allowed me to grab this image.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Wow, I thought I had a good shot but when I posted it to my 500PX page, it quickly climbed to the <b><u>Upcoming</u></b> page with a score of 93 at the time of this blog. This is my highest rated image and it brings a real smile to my face. I have spent hours trying to get an image that would rate this highly and failed miserably.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Enjoy photography, take whatever chances you have to make images and practice, practice, practice.</div>

Up to this point it was doing great, I really like the GPS functionality, the scene modes are varied and well done and the easy auto mode is great for just grabbing some snapshots.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
The colors are true and the fill flash does nicely for the shadows. I was having a great time until the camera simply began to fog behind the lcd screen.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I did my best to dry it out by pulling the battery, putting it in a zip lock bag with dessicant packs and putting it in the sun. It would start up just fine but nothing showed on the screen and the shutter would not fire.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Really disappointed I brought it home and sent it to Nikon for service. I explained what happened and hoped that it would not be too much to be repaired. I was expecting to pay for a repair since I have no way of knowing how or why water got in. I received an email promptly from Nikon listing that there was water damage and that the product would be replaced. Just as I was beginning to wonder during the third week what the status was, a package shows up on my front step.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Kudos to Nikon, I am impressed. Inside the box was a "new" <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ciframe%20src=%22http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=briansh-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B005IGVY92%22%20style=%22width:120px;height:240px;%22%20scrolling=%22no%22%20marginwidth=%220%22%20marginheight=%220%22%20frameborder=%220%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E" target="_blank">Nikon AW100</a>. It has a different serial number than my return and it started up just like brand new one. I am pleased and glad that I have this camera back. Not sure how long it will be before it goes back in the water, and when it does, I will be more careful with it. I will enjoy shooting with it as a quick point and shoot camera to accompany my new D800e.</div>
<div>

Having a great time in San Juan, so much to see and do. Not used to all this walking in this heat but we are making the best of it. History abounds here, cobblestone streets, castles, beautiful architecture. I am anxious to begin processing my images, I believe I have some nice shots. Old San Juan has some great buildings and details.<br />

The two castles are magnificent, it would take a day to properly see each one. The history is fascinating. I like this shot with the play on colors and the amazing cemetery in front of the imposing castle El Morro.<br />

<br />
Not much new on the photographic front to report, the Nikon AW100 is definitely dead. I have not had a chance to take many other images but we will have our chances as we go to the El Yunque rainforest tomorrow and we visit the Camuy caves Wednesday.<br />
<br />
Looking forward to getting my D700 out into the rainforest, caves and especially Old San Juan. Here is one from our new beach<br />

<br />
The Benro tripod A2197 is great. Small, lightweight and very portable. It is a big plus to have a tripod that packs flat. Highly recommended.<br />
<br />
My Zeiss 35mm 1.4 lens. Fantastic quality, superior finish and mechanics. I am sure I am not good enough yet to squeeze images out of this lens that wow me, but I will work on it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This shot is with my Nikon D700 and the Zeiss 35mm 1.4</div>
<br />
<br />
My Nikon AW100, spent two days in the water with some stunning shots. On the third day I do not know if I was swimming too aggressively but I got water inside it. Not sure if it is able to come alive again but I am disappointed to say the least.<br />
<br />
Update to add, the AW100 is dead. I suspect that a small nylon strap that I have to connect the camera to a float strap, may have become lodged in the battery door when I closed it there by letting water in.<br />
<br />
My fault, I like the camera and will replace it.<br />

It has been a difficult year for my family but we are slowly getting back to normal and this vacation could not have come at a better time.<br />

Back in St. Thomas, USVI for a week and then we will be spending the next week in San Juan, Puerto Rico. <a href="http://blog.thinktankphoto.com/in-a-bag-thinktankphoto-competition/">http://blog.thinktankphoto.com/in-a-bag-thinktankphoto-competition/</a><br />
<br />
I use and love Think Tank bags, I have three of them and they are all useful. I use the Think Tank Airport Takeoff as my travel rolling bag. It takes everything I need to my destination and acts as a storage locker for my gear. Best of all, it fits in the overhead bin on most planes. I use the Think Tank Shapeshifter bag that I pack inside my suitcase. This backpack that folds flat is great for travel. Very slim but with tons of storage, it goes to the beach, the mountains or just city shooting. Last of all I use a SlingoMatic 30 as my travel light bag. I like over the shoulder bags if I am just out for a few hours and the SlingoMatic from Think Tank is awesome.<br />
<br />
Enter the contest, you will be glad you did!<br />

A beautiful fall day, brilliant sunshine, blue skies, just the right amount of clouds. Got to wander some areas I had not seen before. Most of the content that I was working to create was static, architecture, buildings, random city scenes.<br />
<br />
A few times I had the opportunity to grab a few shots for myself. With fall being my favorite time of year, I always look for things that reflect the season. Here is one such shot of some fall grasses with great color in the background<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.brianshannonphotography.com/" target="_blank">Fall grasses</a></td></tr>

This park area was very tranquil, the sun gave me a chance to capture some great light, shadow and color. This next shot of a simple bridge give me color and contrast between the leaves and the metal structure.<br />

We made a day out of it, shooting in the quaint little town of Fredericksburg, VA. Loads of history and very picturesque areas but one thing that really caught my eye was some fantastic wall art.<br />
<br />
We were told that this mural was painted by the former owner of the building and that he was a potter. The scenes are of various people making pottery. The bright colors are contrasted by the fading and peeling of the paint from the side of the wall.<br />
<br />

As much as most people chase new equipment, I have been sifting through some older images shot with a variety of photo gear. To my surprise, I have been finding some things that were much better than I first thought.<br />
<br />

It was shot with my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D90-DX-Format-18-105mm-3-5-5-6G/dp/B001ENOZY4?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Nikon D90</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B001ENOZY4" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important; padding: 0px !important;" width="1" /> and a Tamron lens that I no longer own. I never thought I really captured the scene as I remember it, however, when I sat down and processed it, this is the result. I can smell the air, feel the fading sun and remember looking over the water at this beautiful scene.<br />
<br />
Labor Day was overcast but still not too bad. I shot some interesting things in downtown DC, I am still going through many of the images but this is one that was a lot of fun. Playing with shutter speed to try and get just the right amount of movement on the Smithsonian carousel.<br />

<br />
My first find were these lions at the base of the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Department-Justice-Handbook-IBP-USA/dp/1438754000?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Justice Department</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=1438754000" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important; padding: 0px !important;" width="1" /> outer doors. <br />
It is called 500px and my site can be seen at <a href="http://500px.com/brianshannonphotography">http://500px.com/brianshannonphotography</a><a href="http://500px.com/brianshannonphotography"></a>. I am looking forward to having more of my work displayed on the net as you cannot be seen in too many places when it comes to photography.<br />
<br />
There is also a companion blog on the 500px.com site that I intend to use to document photo shoots. Here is my first entry at <a href="http://500px.com/brianshannonphotography/blog">http://500px.com/brianshannonphotography/blog</a><br />
Thanks, PhilAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06921024734140450890noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5717584663667156352.post-90801001274239809802011-07-10T07:24:00.002-04:002011-07-11T09:05:45.142-04:00Composition: What is it?I should say, what is composition to me? In photography the three most important things for a good image are light, location and subject. Does equipment matter? Yes, to some degree. Does post processing with something like <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-65064073-Photoshop-Lightroom-3/dp/B003739DVY?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Adobe Lightroom</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B003739DVY" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; padding-top: 0px !important;" width="1" /> matter? Again, yes, however software cannot fix a bad photo. So what is it about photography that separates the "pros" from the "amateurs"? Today, almost anyone with a point and shoot can take a good or even great photo.<br />
<br />
The answer is composition. This is an area that I have struggled with in photography and something that I have been working hard to improve on. It is what distinguishes a typical tourist snapshot from a great photograph.<br />
<br />
In this example from my recent trip to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Best-Thomas-John-Virgin-Islands/dp/1892285126?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">St. Thomas, USVI</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=1892285126" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; padding-top: 0px !important;" width="1" />, I happened upon some very interesting rocks at a beach. Well I know that my equipment is up to the task, my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D700-FX-Format-3-0-Inch-Body/dp/B001BTCSI6?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Nikon D700</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B001BTCSI6" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; padding-top: 0px !important;" width="1" />, my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-24-70mm-2-8G-Nikkor-Angle/dp/B000VDCT3C?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Nikon 24-70 lens</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B000VDCT3C" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; padding-top: 0px !important;" width="1" /> and my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Completing-Outdoor-Photography-Landscape-Filters/dp/B003AXS13W?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Singh-Ray LB color combo </a><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tiffen-77CP-77mm-Circular-Polarizer/dp/B00004ZCI3?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">polarizer</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B00004ZCI3" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; padding-top: 0px !important;" width="1" />. I set up my shot, check the light, frame it, focus and I have a photo of some rocks, cool looking <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Educational-Insights-GeoSafari-Igneous-Collection/dp/B000BQJNQU?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">volcanic rocks</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=briansh-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B000BQJNQU" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; padding-top: 0px !important;" width="1" /> at that.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pFQE9fewBcA/ThmC-NSlRLI/AAAAAAAAD7A/BnHjP317g7I/s1600/DSC_0824.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pFQE9fewBcA/ThmC-NSlRLI/AAAAAAAAD7A/BnHjP317g7I/s400/DSC_0824.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Volcanic rocks</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Ok, the light looks good, nice water in the background . . . ok I am done. A nice tourist snapshot for the album. Really? Is that what I am trying to get out of photography? In the past I would have been happy. In this case I kept looking. There was some reason why I stopped to look at these rocks.<br />
<br />
In composing a photograph, a photographer needs to ask themselves "what do I see and why do I want to photograph it"? In this case there was something about these rocks that attracted me, the color, the shape . . .<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.brianshannonphotography.com/Landscapes/USVI-St-Thomas-St-John-1/i-2W8hwMh/1/L/Prayer-Hands-2-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.brianshannonphotography.com/Landscapes/USVI-St-Thomas-St-John-1/i-2W8hwMh/1/L/Prayer-Hands-2-L.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.brianshannonphotography.com/Landscapes/USVI-St-Thomas-St-John-1/i-2W8hwMh/1/L/Prayer-Hands-2-L.jpg">The Praying Hands</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>As I looked around, I happened to notice some shapes, fingers, hands. Tightening the frame, focusing on a new subject, simplifying the subject and recomposing I captured one of my favorite shots from my trip. I call this "<a href="http://www.brianshannonphotography.com/Landscapes/USVI-St-Thomas-St-John-1/i-2W8hwMh/1/L/Prayer-Hands-2-L.jpg">The Praying Hands</a>". It is available on my website for sale at <a href="http://www.brianshannonphotography.com/">Brian Shannon Photography</a><br />
<br />
I need to take more time to see what is around me and use my camera to capture it. Composition to me is simply, taking a picture of what captures my interest. This is often easier said than done but I am working on it. If this topic is of interest to you, here are some books that have helped me with composition:<br />

We have had a great time yet again, I have lots of images to go over when I return home. I should have several for my website <a href="http://www.brianshannonphotogaphy.com/">http://www.brianshannonphotogaphy.com/</a> once I have processed them in <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-65064073-Photoshop-Lightroom-3/dp/B003739DVY?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969">Adobe Lightroom</a>.<br />

We spent the weekend trying some new things in the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Fodors-British-Virgin-Islands-Full-Color/dp/1400008654?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969">Virgin Islands</a>. On Saturday we took a fast ferry from St. Thomas to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Best-British-Virgin-Islands-Indispensable/dp/1892285118?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969">Tortola, BVI</a>. Lots of fun skimming the waves and the trip takes less than 50 minutes. Get yourself a passport stamp and head into another country.<br />
<br />
First stop is the iconic BVI store, Pusser's. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Jackspeak-Pussers-Guide-Naval-Slang/dp/0951430505?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969">Pusser's</a> outpost and bar, along with Pusser's rum are well known across the Caribbean.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P3pKE0E_6PE/Tgc3uFFLtiI/AAAAAAAADqU/A4Lkv5BVris/s1600/DSC_1009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P3pKE0E_6PE/Tgc3uFFLtiI/AAAAAAAADqU/A4Lkv5BVris/s400/DSC_1009.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pusser's Outpost</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Quaint bar and shop, filled with nautical themed items and memorabilia. Looks like a fun place to just hang out. Tshirts, nautical clothing, rum, mugs, shot glasses . . . really gets you in the island mood.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pusser's Pub</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Road Town was very small and many shops were closed. We were hoping for more to see and do but the time for our return trip was at hand so we came back home to St. Thomas. One day we will revisit here and look for more things to see and do.<br />
<br />
On Sunday we visited another new beach, Lindquist beach. Beautiful water that was emerald green even though the day was mixed clouds, a little rain and some sun. The Magens Bay authority now owns this beach and hopefully one day it will be like Magens, with facilities, parking and chair rentals.<br />
Until then, you rough it on the sand, which is well worth it.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Orange sunset in St. Thomas</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Hopefully this wont be the last nice sunset and I need to get up and moving some morning to go after some sunrise photos. I also want to work on some new compositions in some familiar places. We are going to visit Magens Bay today, this will give me chance to shoot some new images with my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D700-FX-Format-3-0-Inch-Body/dp/B001BTCSI6?ie=UTF8&tag=briansh-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969">Nikon D700</a>.<br />
<br />
Until next time, keep shooting!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06921024734140450890noreply@blogger.com0
